B D Narayankar reports

Bangalore, April 15 (PTI) BJP has become jittery about its prospects in Lok Sabha polls in the last few days which was reflected in Narendra Modi's language "bordering on obscenity and defamatory",Congress claimed today.

"It is also reflected in the divisive and unmindful language of Subramanian Swamy and sundry other BJP leaders," Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters here.

".... Whether their sundry leaders resorting to the language which is venomous and divisive... It all reflects lack of confidence on the part of BJP," he said.

Asked about BJP President Rajnath Singh's meeting with renowned Muslim clerics of Lucknow, he evaded a direct reply, saying people have come to know about Modi and his trusted aide Amit Shah's intentions and would not allow them to disturb the communal fabric of the country.

"BJP, from time to time, has been changing its face and mask. The people of the country and Uttar Pradesh have understood the abusive and obscene language used by Modi and Amit Shah. They will not allow to break the comunnal fabric of the country," he said.

As far as the meeting between Sonia Gandhi and Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid is concerned, Surjewala said AICC has clarified that she does not seek votes based on caste and religion. "Also the AICC President has not appealed to the Imam for votes," he said.

Continuing his tirade against BJP, Surjewala said "Modi and his friends" in Uttar Pradesh have systematically attempted to sow seeds of poison and hatred in people's mind".

On Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's former Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru's book, he said it is a "figment of his imagination" and should be eradicated from the minds of people.

"Baru is selling canards to gain cheap publicity for his book. None less than the Prime Minister of India has spoken not once but twice and has rejected his cheap fiction as imaginary and false," he said.
