The West’s Grooming of Radical Islam

The West’s Grooming of Radical Islam : Part 1
Share

With the Indian elections looming the western media is full of hysteria and paranoia reminiscent out of some science fiction novel depicting a dystopian future where human civilisation has all but collapsed. Led by the anti-Hindu rag known as the Guardian, we are repeatedly fed a constant feed of dire warnings should Narendra Modi win: massacres, ethnic cleansing, poverty increase and an end of basic liberty under a fascist dictatorship. But how far does this accord with the reality?
The Guardian prides itself on its liberal views. Yet as far as Hindus are concerned they might as well be reading Dr Goebbels’ Nazi mouthpiece Der Angriff with its spew of racist venom and crude racial stereotypes. The issue goes beyond just Modi. It extends to Hindus generally in a manner not found when referring to other communities and indigenous peoples threatened with extinction in many parts of the world. I single out the Guardian but it could be any western newspaper. Left, liberal, Marxist, conservative, neo-fascist, even the ironically entitled Independent are all united in their denigration of anything Hindu.
In this they are joined by major media outlets, notably the BBC. Why is this? Why do these outdated colonial stereotypes from the age which saw the extermination of the Tasmanian aborigines as essential to progress persist with regard to Hindus? Is there something dark and nasty in the elements of western civilisation which it make it fear and hate Hinduism to the point of insanity?
These are important questions for citizens to ask in western countries having been misled by politicians who enjoy lavish lifestyles at the expense of the very people they have been elected to serve. By use of focus groups the political parties use clever spin and camouflaged euphemisms to deflect away from direct and embarrassing questions. The decline of civil society and the clamour for ‘rights’ over responsibilities has debased citizens into mere subjects who kow-tow to a nouveau patrician elite.
Think of how the Western public was hoodwinked into believing in the necessity of a war in Iraq. How many lives have been lost in a conflict which was based on the false accusation that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction? This is merely the tip of the iceberg. The political elite defends its own interests with a financial militancy against the proletariat masses that is sickening to behold.
Why do these outdated colonial stereotypes from the age which saw the extermination of the Tasmanian aborigines as essential to progress persist with regard to Hindus? Is there something dark and nasty in the elements of western civilisation which it make it fear and hate Hinduism to the point of insanity? In his 2007 book A History of the English-Speaking Peoples Since 1900, self-styled ‘reactionary’ conservative British historian Andrew Roberts speaks of “Islamist” terrorism” as the fourth major assault on the Anglosphere, following that of Wilhelmine Germany, Nazism and communism. On page 601:
For over a decade since the fall of the Berlin Wall, successive presidents and CIA directors had treated the threat of Islamo-fascist fundamentalist terrorism with too little appreciation of the true threat it posed.
Hence US-led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan were justifiable responses to 9/11, and indeed much else. Unsurprisingly Roberts bemoans anti-Americanism and Saddam apologists such as George Galloway MP. But in doing so he has found himself in an unenviable cul-de-sac because it was his favourite nations of Britain and America, who dominate the ‘Anglosphere’ and form the core of the English-speaking nations, which are actually responsible for creating not just the conditions, but the actual ideological manifestation of this threat, whether we call it Islamofascism, Islamic fundamentalism or Islamicist terrorism. This unfortunately includes some of Roberts’ very own heroes, notably Churchill.
Patriots or Collaborators?
On 4 June President Obama gave a landmark speech at Cairo University. Entitled “A New Beginning”, the event was co-hosted by Al-Azhar University, that most prestigious of institutions in the Muslims world which includes the propagation of Islam. Associated with Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, the university’s scholars issue fatwas end edicts, as well as being active in missionary work. In his speech Obama sought to build bridges with the Islamic world and rectify any misunderstandings that were created during the premiership of his predecessor, George W Bush.
The speech elicited much criticism from Obama’s conservative opponents who said that he was being soft on terrorism and secretly harboured sympathy for radical Islam. Indeed it is common for the President to be accused of being a crypto-Muslim himself.
In many ways this is a replay of the election campaign of 1980, when President Carter was accused by Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr. of being soft on Iran and the taking of hostages from the American embassy by Khomeini’s thugs. The bitter irony in this reductionist argument was revealed in November 1986 when the Lebanese newspaper Al-Shirra leaked that the Reagan administration had been selling arms to Iran in order to finances armed opposition in Nicaragua; in what became known as the Iran-Contra scandal.
George Bush Jr spoke tough after the attacks of 9/11. This gung-ho all guns blazing mentality was manifest most devastatingly in the invasion of Iraq, a debacle which has caused untold suffering to millions who have become refugees or casualties to unending sectarian violence as that state collapses. In Afghanistan the picture is also bleak. But most poignant of all is that Bush ‘Dubya’ never actually attacked the source of the 9/11 attacks itself; Saudi Arabia. Indeed Saudi Arabia, along with Pakistan, was warmly embraced by Bush in his war on terror.
In his 2005 book House of Bush, House of Saud, Craig Unger (former editor-in-chief of Boston Magazine) open with the startling revelation that while all flights were grounded after 9/11, Saudis in America were exempt from this. This was part of a bizarre relationship in which Islamic radicalism and America, especially its business interests, turned a blind eye to each due to temporary and shaky common interests:
America, the beacon of democracy, was to arm and protect a brutal theocratic monarchy. The United States, sworn defender of Israel, was also the guarantor of security to the guardians of Wahhabi Islam, the fundamentalist religious sect that was one of Israel’s and America’s mortal enemies.
As early as 1943 President Franklin D Roosevelt had declared:
…the defense of Saudi Arabia is vital to the defense of the United States.
In 1938 FDR had gained the agreement of King Abdul Aziz to grant Aramco exclusive oil rights in the kingdom.Since 1945 the Saudi monarchy had become very rich as American expertise helped in the exploration and manufacture of the kingdom’s vast reserves of crude oil. The Bush family, perhaps the nearest thing America has to an aristocracy, invested heavily in the private equity firm known as the Carlyle Group. By this Bush was not only linked the Saudis, but also that theocracy’s most prestigious family, the Bin Ladens.
Reagan sold AWAC jets and Stinger missiles to Saudi, and overlooked human rights abuses in that state. Women could not drive or go out unveiled or even unescorted by a male relative. Slavery was only abolished in 1962. The dirty work was done by legions of dark-skinned Third World guest workers who had even less rights than the Saudi masses. Jews and Sikhs are banned from the state. Practice of religions other than Islam is forbidden.
Yet all this was irrelevant as America vaunted Saudi as its close ally. In the 1980s Saudi helped furnish American arms to the Afghan mujahadeen fighting the Soviets and encouraged jihad against the atheist USSR. Vice-President Bush supported sending money to the Saudi-backed Mahtab al-Khidamant which was later linked to the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Centre in New York. Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, who has served as Saudi ambassador to the USA, met a charismatic young man who had left a life of luxury to fight on this frontline in Afghanistan. This twentysomething told Bandar of his gratitude to the Americans for their help in fighting the Soviet infidels. This man was Osama bin Laden. Bush Sr. himself visited the region and praised the jihadis.
The Blind Sheikh, Omar Abdel Rahman, was seen by the CIA as essential to its anti-Soviet operations. But as the USSR withdrew in 1989, Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan warned Bush that America had created a “Frankenstein”. That was to manifest itself in al-Qaeda. However the President was close to Prince Bandar, who visited the White House for Thanksgiving in 1990.
It was actually his successor Bill Clinton who took more direct action against Saudis, for example sending FBI agents to investigate the 1995 attack on the Military Cooperation Program in Riyadh and the 1996 bombing in Dhahran. Lack of Saudi cooperation was compounded by accusations against Clinton by the kingdom’s Republican allies who accused him on being totalitarian in probing too much. When the El Hifa plant in Khartoum, closely linked to al-Qaeda, was bombed by the Americans, Rush Limbaugh accused the President of bombing an “aspirin factory”. Clinton was ridiculed for his counter terrorist efforts, which included pressurising the Saudis to deport Osama.
During the elections which followed Clinton’s presidency the Saudi links of Bush Jr. were scarcely mentioned. Yet Saudi Arabia gave $2.5 million to Bush’s charities. American Muslim commentator Stephen Sulayman Schwarz further revealed a powerful Wahhabi lobby at work with Saudis giving money to CAIR, AMC and MPAC, while the Bush campaign strategist Grover Norquist actively courted the support of radical Islam in electing Bush. Norquist himself was a founding member of the Islamic Institute which became a bridge between the Republican Party and the forces of radical Islam, the adherents of which he believes share American conservative and family values. It was Norquist who brought President Bush together with Wahhabi leaders at the Washington mosque in the aftermath of 9/11.
Far from being a patriot he has been an active lobbyist for the Wahhabi state of Qatar. Vice-President Dick Cheney acted as a pro-Saudi quisling blaming attacks on Israel on the Iranian backed Shia Hezbollah, but ignoring the Saudi role in the funding terrorism against the only democracy in the Middle East as part of Riyadh’s eternal war against the Jews.
Since the 1980s this Wahhabi lobby has been hard at work in America through with many mosques being built with Saudi money and pro-Saudi groups such as Hamas and Muslim Students Association (MSA) having disproportionate influence due to lavish Saudi funding. While they have concentrated on demonising Israel their efforts have also rested on marginalising Muslims who do not share Wahhabi doctrines and ultimately threatening the fabric of American democracy itself. Stephen Suleyman Schwarz is an American convert to Islam who has exposed the Wahhabi-Saudi strategy in his 2002 book The Two Faces of Islam (Random House, New York, 2002). Page 243:
For Wahhabis everywhere, the party line is laid down in Riyadh, which simultaneously foments terrorist teaching and disclaims any responsibility for Wahhabi atrocities, as in the case of Bin Ladin. Friday sermons in American mosques have been  faxed directly from the kingdom. Saudis corrupt Muslims abroad in exactly the same way that the Soviet Union once brought the loyalty of foreign intellectuals, labor leaders, and guerrilla fighters, and for the same ends.
In 1999 the Saudis rejected the pathetic and meek American requests to conduct a full and transparent investigation of the Khobar Towers bombing, just as they would later reject demands to provide advance passenger lists on flights from Saudi Arabia to the USA in the aftermath of 9/11, and also ignored demands that bank accounts of terrorists and their contributors were investigated, frozen and seized.
Just as the Communist Party of America acted as an unofficial arm of the Soviet KGB, the Saudi funded radical Islamic groups such as CAIR, ISNA and AMC act as arms of the mutawwa using similar tactics as communists who denounced all their critics as ‘fascists’ while styling themselves as ‘progressives’. Through such methods Shaykh Hisham Kabbani of the Islamic Supreme Council of America 80% of mosques in 2002 were run by Wahhabis. But this extreme sect only accounted for 20% of American Muslims. Wahhabis have therefore denounced Kabbani as “marginal”.
The irony is not lost. While Obama’s right-wing detractors accuse him of everything from backing terrorism to lying about his religious beliefs and even birth right, the Saudis were essential in getting Bush elected, according to Norquist. Hence his soft line to the terrorist state even after 9/11. He pointedly ignored the Saudi role in the terrorist attack even while Abu Zulaydah, al-Qaeda operative caught in Peshawar on 28 March 2002, broke under interrogation to reveal links to Prince Sultan and Prince Fahd bin Turki bin Saud al-Kabir.
He also confessed that Prince Ahmed knew that 9/11 was going to take place. By attacking Iraq, Bush not only deflected attention from the real culprits, but also did Osama’s dirty work for him. Behind the image of an all-American patriot, the sad reality revealed by Unger is a president who as never before is dependant on a foreign power that is ideologically and theologically committed to the destruction of American and the American way of life:
Where is George Orwell when we need him? Because we Americans need him. We desperately need him. Consider: in August 2001, immediately after reading a memo entitled “Bin Ladin determined to strike the US”, President George Bush never called a meeting to discuss the issue. A poll just after the Republican convention in 2004 showed that 27% of the voters preferred Bush to his Democratic opponent when it came to national security. Yet the increasingly clear truth is that Bush is actually soft on terror and that he has repeatedly turned a blind eye, particularly on Saudi Arabia.

Poem: Darning feelings for you

Poem by B D Narayankar

The seams of my heart have begun to separate
from her thoughts
The feelings for her are falling apart
in places, many

Using the stitches of my poetry
I spend time darning,
the whole day, for now

Why sickularists' heart doesn't bleed for Yazidis and Hindus?

Hindus and Yazidis: Ignored Victims of Jihad

Major cities throughout the world have been rocked by demonstrations against the loss of innocent life in Gaza . Israel ’s response to the unrelenting terrorism by the democratically elected Hamas government of the Palestinian territories has been widely condemned as disproportionate. The scenes of hospitals, schools and United Nations feeding centres attacked by Israeli military might have had major political ramifications.
In Britain , Prime Minister David Cameron lost a key ally in his cabinet when Baroness Sayeeda Warsi resigned from her position as Minister for Faith and Communities. In her resignation letter, Warsi wrote that the UK government’s “approach and language during the current crisis in Gaza is morally indefensible, is not in Britain’s national interest and will have a long term detrimental impact on our reputation internationally and domestically” and that it was “not consistent with the rule of law and our long support for international justice”.
To her credit this Conservative Party peer had condemned attacks on the Christian minority in Pakistan and elsewhere, in the Telegraph on 14 November 2013:
She lamented how Christianity was becoming extinct in Iraq and Syria . Of course since then with the rise of ISIS and plans for a global caliphate the situation has grown much worse. The jihadi fighters armed western powers to overthrow Syria ’s Pashar Assad have turned their attention to wiping out non-Muslims, as well as Muslims that belong to Shia, Alawite and Sufi schools of thought.
As ISIS advances through Iraq it has given Christians the choice of death, expulsion or conversion to Islam, categories which are not mutually exclusive as even conversion has been no guarantee of life. Warsi’s prior concern for the Christian minority of Iraq have been echoed more recently by Brigitte Gabriel who founded conservative think-tank Act for America to highlight the terrorist threat posed by radical Islam. Gabriel was herself born into Lebanon ’s Christian minority known as Maronites, and has lamented inaction by the Obama administration on the persecution, genocide and religious cleansing of Christians in the Middle East, notably Iraq .
Warsi’s resignation has been lauded by many, especially on the Left, as principled. Yet if it was human rights violations that led her to resign, why no mention of Iraq in her resignation? As followers of a monotheistic creed that preceded and has much in common with her own Islamic faith, Christians can elicit sympathy from Warsi. But the Yazidis elicit none. This community follow religious traditions derived mainly from Zoroastrianism, as followed by the dwindling Parsi community of India . Yazidis also imbibe elements of from ancient Iranian Mithraism, ancient Assyrian religion, as well as Christianity, Judaism and Islam but also Vedic roots.
The ancient religion is rumoured to have been founded by an 11th century Ummayyad sheikh and uses  ranging from Christian baptism, Islamic circumcision and the Zaroastrian reverence of fire.
The origin of the Yazidi religion is now usually seen by scholars as a complex process of syncretism, whereby the belief system and practices of a local faith had a profound influence on the religiosity of adherents of the ‘Adawiyya Sufi order living in the Yezidi mountains, and caused it to deviate from Islamic norms relatively soon after the death of its founder, Shaykh Adī ibn Musafir, who is said to be of Umayyad descent. He settled in the valley of Laliş (some thirty-six miles north-east of Mosul ) in the early 12th century.
The one deity created the world and left in the charge of seven angels. Most live in Iraq and speak Kurdish, although a minority use Arabic.  At the core of the Yazidis’ marginalization is their worship of a fallen angel, Melek Tawwus, or Peacock Angel, one of the seven angels that take primacy in their beliefs. Unlike the fall from grace of Satan, in the Judeo-Christian tradition, Melek Tawwus was forgiven and returned to heaven by God. Hence their beliefs not only distinguish them from their Muslim neighbours, but the latter also denounce them as worshippers of Satan and the jinn.
This has frequently resulted in inevitable bouts of intense persecution, such as 72 massacres by the Ottoman Turks during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. No surprise then that they have attracted the wrath of ISIS . The Islamic State has justified its slaughter of Yazidis on the basis of the long-standing slur that they are “devil-worshipers.” Present estimates put the global number of Yazidis at around 700,000 people, with the vast majority of them concentrated in northern Iraq , in and around Sinjar. On 6 August 2014, Vian Dakhil, a Yazidi MP in Iraq , broke down in tears as she called on the parliament and the international community to “Save us! Save us!” from ISIS .
Having at last come to the attention of the world, this obscure ancient community stands on the brink of extinction in its ancestral homeland. President Obama has authorised airdrops of humanitarian assistance to help Yazidis stranded on Mount Sinjar where they faced starvation and dehydration if they remain stranded on Mount Sinjar , and slaughter at the hands of the jihadis if they moved. The planes delivered 5,300 gallons of fresh drinking water and 8,000 prepackaged meals and were over the drop area for less than 15 minutes at a low altitude.
Again that begs the question why no mass protests as there have been over Gaza ? Above all why no resignation by Baroness Warsi on her vague ‘principles’ when an entire ancient community face extinction? To understand this we must tear away the mask of respectability which the acceptable face of religious intolerance wears so skillfully. For example, take this from BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions broadcast on 27 January 2006, when Warsi eloquently defended an organisation that wants to wipe out Jews and the state of Israel :
“I think what’s happened in the Middle East with the election of Hamas is actually an opportunity and I think that’s the way we’ve got to see it. When groups that practise violence are suddenly propelled into power through a democratic process they get responsibility and responsibility can be a tremendously taming factor. And I think that Hamas, when it realises that it wants a safe and stable and prosperous Palestine for its people, will realise that the way to deal with that is through dialogue and democracy and not through violence.”
On 7 July 2005 London was rocked by suicide bombings on its transport system carried out by radical Islamists. Just 2 days later on the BBC Politics Show, Warsi, then an election candidate for the Conservative Party, defended terrorism in Kashmir :
“We have a community in Britain , a Pakistani and Kashmiri community, who holds a very, very strong view about Kashmir and the scope of freedom-fighting in Kashmir . It would concern me if… the definition of terrorism was to cover maybe (the) legitimate freedom-fight in Kashmir .”
Warsi’s ‘freedom fighters’ have caused the rape, massacre and forcible conversion of the indigenous Hindu population of Kashmir . In 1989 the remainder were forced out at gunpoint by the very groups which the House of Lords peer so eloquently supports. As the Kashmiri Hindus eke out a miserable existence in refugee camps for the last quarter of a century, Warsi did not find this humanitarian crisis impact one iota on her conscience when with a straight face she defended such terrorism as being steeped in the traditions of Nelson Mandela and the fight against apartheid.
As with the Yazidis, why did Warsi no make a principled stand with respect to the Kashmiri Hindus? Is it because they conflict with her support for the aims of Harakat Ul-Jihad-Ul Islami, Harakat-Ul-Mujahideen/Alami and Jundallah, Harakat Mujahideen, Jaish e Mohammed, Khuddam Ul-Islam and splinter group Jamaat Ul-Furquan, and Lashkar e Tayyaba, Islamic terrorist groups active in Kashmir which are outlawed in Britain?
Perhaps it lies deeper. There will be no calls for humanitarian help to Kashmiri Hindus. There will be no government resignations in Britain by anyone taking a principled stand on Kashmir . There will be no mass urban protests about the disproportionate use of force by jihadis intent on the extermination of Kashmiri Hindus.
While the plight of the Yazidis has been brought to the attention of the very western powers which have backed jihadis in Pakistan, Kashmir, India, Afghanistan, Syria and even the ones in Iraq, this is because these same terrorists have threatened Christianity in the region, to which western civilisation remains wedded, however tenuously. Hinduism remains strange and the unknown ‘Other’ and its followers remain relegated to the half –child half-monkey syndrome of a racist colonialist mindset.
Therefore it proved no problem for Warsi to defend the genocide of Hindus of Kashmir, and yet enjoy a high profile career as a government minister. The sick irony was that as Minister for Faith and Communities, she was responsible for the very Hindu community whose suffering she ignored. If the Yazidis had not been caught up in the cycle of violence which has engulfed and exterminated the Christians of Iraq and Syria, the western democracies could once again have conveniently ignored their plight, just as they have ignored the jihad against Hindus in India for over 60 years and the genocide against the indigenous Hindus of Kashmir for the last quarter of a century. Will that not have a detrimental impact on Britain ’s foreign policy and standing in the world? Is that consistent with the rule of law and support for international justice? Let the silence of the British, American and other western governments be your answer on this.

Poem: The Moon on my lawn

photo_us-15.jpeg

Penned By B D Narayankar

Whenever the harping rains fall
on my lawn in pre-monsoons
I hasten to the roof at darkness
And gaze at the sky
I pray to Almighty - that milky Moon (beloved)
comes curling down as the severed kite
to settle on my lawn

Siddaramaiah's Bucketful of Dirty Politics

A Jayaram writes

The image of Siddaramaiah Government in Karnataka lies shattered with the spate of rapes including those of little girls. Karnataka appears to be competing with Uttar Pradesh in that matter and the Government is resorting to knee jerk solutions as transferring the Bangalore Police Commissioner, Raghavendra Auradkar.

The protests by women against the rapes and police have completely unnerved the Congress Government in Karnataka. The Government is resorting to knee jerk solutions as transferring the Bangalore Police Commissioner, Raghavendra Auradkar. The Chief Minister should have told the Home Minister KJ George to resign. A former Youth Congress leader, George is the first Christian home minister of Karnataka. While replacing Auradkar with MN Reddy as the police commissioner, Government has committed a folly. It has flagrantly violated a directive issued by its own UPA Government in January 2014, fixing a minimum tenure of two years for IAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service officers. The Centre had acted on a directive from the Supreme Court (Judges KS Radhakrishnan and Pinaki Chandra Ghose) in October 2013 in that regard. The Court had said that the bureaucrats should have a fixed tenure of service and be insulated against frequent or premature transfers ordered on the whims of the political executive.
Karnataka

The protests by women in Bengaluru and elsewhere in the State are similar to those witnessed in Delhi in the wake of the rape and murder of a young woman in December 2012. The protestors are from educated middle class. It is also noteworthy that most of the women protestors are coming into the open to protest spontaneously and do not belong to any organisation or political outfit. The tidings are ominous for the Congress Government.
Though it can be argued that the Government cannot be blamed for the incidents of rape which concern the libido or perversity of individual man, the Government has itself to blame for the way the police are handling such cases. For many years now, the police in Karnataka are dancing to the tune of the ruling party. As far back as in 1981, the Bangalore police were mute spectators to the seizure of two English newspaper offices by Youth Congress goons led by BK Hariprasad, Congress member of the Rajya Sabha and an All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary for all seasons. The Bangalore police at that time had in BN Garudachar, a commissioner known for his professional excellence. But he too had succumbed to the dictates of the politicians in authority, R Gundu Rao government.
The MLAs are barred from interfering in the transfer of government officials. It was when HD Deve Gowda was the Chief Minister and transfer of officials became a big business and a money spinner. In the last few years, it is not the legislators alone, but even minor political functionaries exert pressure on the police and other government servants.
The police in Karnataka have come to be politicised and policemen at all levels have become yes men of those in power. Instead of putting down crime, policemen are interfering in civil disputes and are known to be involved in real estate transactions. It is particularly so in big cities like Bengaluru, Mysore, Hubli and Mangalore. It has become common for policemen to advise the complainants to make compromises with the accused and thereby earn a commission for themselves!
Though, the alleged rape of the six year old school girl has eclipsed the earlier incident of kidnap and rape of a post graduate student, the latter is significant in more ways than one. It looks place in an area where the Muslim elite of Bangalore resides, Fraser Town in Bangalore Cantonment. It is an area very familiar to the Home Minister George whose Assembly constituency is adjacent to it. Fraser Town has areas with a high density of poor Muslims, close to it. Despite being aware of all this, the Government chose to post a Muslim Inspector, Mohammed Rafique to the local police station. It is this officer who diluted the complaint of rape filed on behalf of the victim. He has since been arrested under the amended Section 166 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). All those arrested in this case so far are Muslim youth. Considering the way Muslims flare up on the slightest pretext, a question has been asked as to what would have been their reaction if the victim of the rape belonged to their community? This question was raised in a Kannada TV programme by a former Bangalore police officer known for his ruthless professionalism while in service.
The Government’s handling of the other major incident that of the schoolgirl leaves much to be desired. The police have tried to maintain that their job has been completed with the arrest of a skating instructor from Bihar. So far it has not touched the Chairman of the Vibgyor School, one Rustom Kerawalla who had almost succeeded in hushing up the case. Interestingly the Congress leader and former minister for Primary Education, Prof BK Chandrashekar has demanded prosecution of the chairman for “willful suppression” of the incident which is liable to be punished under Sections 176 and 202 of the IPC. The Government can ill afford to treat Prof Chandrashekar’s demand with levity as he is one of the few intellectuals in the party- a doctorate in law from Oxford University and former professor at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. The Government should not yield to any pressure, community or political party goes soft on the School management.
The Congress Government is also encouraging licentiousness among the youth and has extended the closing time of pubs and bars to 1 AM .However, the extension in closing time is limited to Saturdays and Sundays. Parts of Bengaluru like the once swanky Brigade Road have become centers of immorality in the night. The Government has yielded to pressure from the bar owners in this respect.
