Jaya case: SPP files plea in HC against cost on him

Bangalore, March 18 (PTI) Special Public Prosecutor Bhavani Singh today moved the High  seeking quashing of a special court order, imposing a cost of one-day salary for two consecutive days on him in the disproportionate assets case against  Chief Minister  and three others. 

Special Court Judge Michael D'Cunha had on March 14 imposed the cost amounting to Rs 60,000 to Rs 65,000 after Singh pleaded for adjournment on grounds of ill health. 

The court had directed Singh on February 28 to resume arguments in the case in which Jayalalithaa had been charged with accumulating Rs 66 crore wealth disproportionate to known sources of income in 1991-95 when she was the Chief Minister. 

In his plea before the High Court, he has maintained that the order granted by the special court was "arbitrary" and not according to  because he had submitted "genuine" medical cetificates before it, Singh said. 

He had also stated that the court has not furnished proper reasons for rejecting the contents ingrained in medical certificates, Singh said. 

The special court had observed that the conduct of Singh was unjustifiable after he abstained from appearing before it to resume the final arguments. 

The court also had directed that the final arguments in Jayalalithaa case would commence from March 25 and for DMK General Secretary Anbazhagan to submit his written arguments. 

The court also also gave Singh another chance to appear before the court on March 21 and resume the arguments.
