Political novice Nandan sets up date with Lord Of The Ring Ananth Kumar in LS polls

Bangalore, March 21 (PTI) Infosys co-founder and Congress candidate Nandan Nilekani on Friday filed his nominations for the Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency, where he is locked in a tough battle against five-time MP BJP’s Ananth Kumar.

“Everywhere I went, the refrain was – We want change now,” said billionaire Nilekani, who had his political baptism only recently after overseeing implementation of “Aadhar” scheme as Chief of Unique Identification Authority of India.

Speaking to reporters after filing the nomination, he said he stands a chance to win the elections as people’s response to his campaign was highly positive.

Nilekani, who a day before entering the fray declared that he and his wife have assets worth Rs 7,700 crore, said people’s complaints revolved around the absence of their MP, and a lack of accountability when it came to addressing local challenges here, an apparent dig at Kumar.

He said he would continue to meet the people at their doors and seek votes for bringing in change.

“I have given shape to a five-point agenda involving problems related to roads and infrastructure, waste segregation, shortage of water, education and jobs for all,” he said.

Kumar had filed his nomination on March 19. Barring once, BJP has held this middle-class dominated constituency with anti-Congress tilt since 1991, with Kumar winning since 1996.
