अपने सीने को अखिदत से लगा के रख दी
तस्वीर थी उनकी गिरी  उठा के रख दी

ये कैसे रोमियो और जूलिएट के फ़साने बन गए
किसी ने तिनके चुन चुन हमारी दास्ताँ रख दी

नये साल के इस्तक़बाल के लिए पहले से
हमने चराग उदासी की जला के रख दी

यह आलम है कतरे कतरे को तरसता हूँ 'रऊफ'
घर में न जाने बोतल सिहायी की कहा रख दी

Apne seene ko akidat se laga ke rakh di
tasveer thi unki giri utha ke rakh di

When I returned home, HER photo was fallen on the mat. I picked up and pressed it against my chest with tender affection and placed it in my family album ...


Reason for this couplet:

Naye saal ke istaqbal ke liye pahle se
hamne charag udasi ki jala ke rakh di

Before the new year could awake pulling off the darkened rug covering her face, I had already torched the lamps of sorrows ... That night i had only sorrows on my platter, and how could I offer her all these ... hence no new year wishes
